Catching bluffs... ...

Well, I have sort of turned into a bluff catcher today. Sometimes, the bluffs that some micro limit players made are so far fetched and the line they take doesn't make sense.

For example,

Hand 1: Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 9 Players

    BTN: $27.76 (111 bb)
    SB: $13.83 (55.3 bb)
    BB: $8.25 (33 bb)
    UTG+1: $12.32 (49.3 bb)
    UTG+2: $49.25 (197 bb)
    MP1: $69.83 (279.3 bb)
    Hero (MP2): $28.77 (115.1 bb)
    MP3: $29.15 (116.6 bb)
    CO: $22.50 (90 bb)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with T of spades T of clubs
    UTG+1 raises to $1, 2 folds, Hero calls $1, 4 folds, BB calls $0.75

Flop: ($3.10) 6 of clubs Q of spades 7 of spades (3 players)
    BB checks, UTG+1 bets $1Hero raises to $3BB folds, UTG+1 calls $2

    Turn: ($9.10) 5 of clubs (2 players)
    UTG+1 bets $8.32 and is all-in, Hero calls $8.32

    River: ($25.74) 4 of spades (2 players, 1 is all-in)

    Results: $25.74 pot ($1.16 rake)
Final Board: 6 of clubs Q of spades 7 of spades 5 of clubs 4 of spades
UTG+1 showed K of clubs A of clubs and lost (-$12.32 net)
Hero showed T of spades T of clubs and won $24.58 ($12.26 net)
Preflop:
  • UTG+1 villain here has a very wide range.
  • However, as he raises UTG here, I certainly do not like to 3 bet him especially since he has a low fold to 3bet%. I rather play post flop with him.
Flop:
  • On this flop, I reckon that I have good equity vs villain and BB who has a really wide range as he cold called with at big blind position.
  • Hence, I raised villain flop cbet and this villain called my raise.
  • This action indicated 3 things: 1) He is likely to be on a draw 2) Slowplaying monsters. 3) He is clueless about what is happening.
Turn
  • Out of the blue, he shoved all in.
  • Funny play here which doesnt make sense with his line so far.
  • Hence, I made an easy call with middle pair here, with 70% equity at turn.
  • Yummy... I love fish!

Hand 2: Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 9 Players

BTN: $25.85 (103.4 bb)
Hero (SB): $86.12 (344.5 bb)
BB: $35.06 (140.2 bb)
UTG+1: $25 (100 bb)
UTG+2: $26.10 (104.4 bb)
MP1: $26.29 (105.2 bb)
MP2: $25.44 (101.8 bb)
MP3: $20.25 (81 bb)
CO: $28.87 (115.5 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with T of hearts 8 of clubs
7 folds, Hero raises to $0.75, BB calls $0.50

Flop: ($1.50) Q of clubs 8 of hearts 4 of clubs (2 players)
Hero bets $1, BB calls $1

Turn: ($3.50) 6 of diamonds (2 players)
Hero checks, BB checks

River: ($3.50) 7 of hearts (2 players)
Hero bets $1.75, BB raises to $5.25, Hero calls $3.50

Results: $14 pot ($0.63 rake)
Final Board: Q of clubs 8 of hearts 4 of clubs 6 of diamonds 7 of hearts
Hero showed T of hearts 8 of clubs and won $13.37 ($6.37 net)
BB showed 4 of hearts A of spades and lost (-$7 net)

Preflop:

  • This is a typical BVB reg war.
  • Villain is a tag reg and I think he sees me as an aggressive blind stealer.
  • Therefore, the range that we put each other will surely be very wide (Point proven when he calls with A4 and call my cbet with bottom pair).
Flop:
  • When villain called my flop cbet, I am not really confident that I have the best hand but I am quite sure that he doesn't have a Q, at least not one with good kicker.
Turn:
  • I checked turn and tried to pot control. (Could have been a mistake?)
  • The villain checked behind me at turn. His action here tells me 1 thing: He definitely do not have a Q or monsters like sets+.
  • I feel that the correct action for him is to bet turn since I indicated weakness on a draw heavy flop. If I called his turn bet, he can easily bet big again at river to bluff me off a better hand. This play is viable as he knows I am not a fish and I can make folds. So he certainly do have fold equity by betting.
River:
  • I decided to extract value at river but villain reraised me.
  • This line is very fishy. Did he had a strong enuff hand to reraise me?
  • A river reraise normally indicate strong hands.
  • His action at flop and turn doesn't seemed to indicate that.
  • I decided to call as I feel I often have the best hand here to make this call a profitable one.
  • I was proven right.
