It is amazing how my game has been changing and evolving after I moved to 50nl.
I started to realise that there are more aggressive players who are taking advantage of nitty players willingness to lay down medium strength hand. And I have started to make certain adjustments to my game.
For example, in this hand:
Poker Stars, $0.25/$0.50 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 9 Players
BTN: $76.20 (152.4 bb)
SB: $44.72 (89.4 bb)
BB: $55.37 (110.7 bb)
UTG+1: $27.56 (55.1 bb)
UTG+2: $37.97 (75.9 bb)
MP1: $50.06 (100.1 bb)
MP2: $51.05 (102.1 bb)
MP3: $57.65 (115.3 bb)
Hero (CO): $51.50 (103 bb)
Preflop: Hero is CO with Q J
UTG+1 folds, UTG+2 calls $0.50, MP1 raises to $2.50, 2 folds, Hero calls $2.50, 4 folds
Flop: ($6.25) J 9 9 (2 players)
MP1 bets $3.94, Hero calls $3.94
Turn: ($14.13) 2 (2 players)
MP1 bets $8.90, Hero calls $8.90
River: ($31.93) 3 (2 players)
MP1 bets $15.24, Hero calls $15.24
Results: $62.41 pot ($2.50 rake)
Final Board: J 9 9 2 3
MP1 showed 7 7 and lost (-$30.58 net)
Hero showed Q J and won $59.91 ($29.33 net)
MP1 is a TAG regular who has a tendency to double barrel bluff. At 25nl, I would have folded this top pair by turn not to mention calling a triple barrel with just a top pair good kicker.
However, what prompted me to call his triple barrel was the fact that he has shown a high frequency of cbetting both flop and turn.
By calling, I am representing that I like this board. Yet he keeps making these half pot bets. If he has a strong hand (QQ-AA, sets+, trips+ etc), I feel that he will be making a much larger bet, something like 0.75PSB. Not to say that I am sure that I have the best hand here. But, his bet sizing makes it profitable for me to call since there is a significant amount of time that he is bluffing.
I am not too worried about being dominated. If he has AJ or KJ, he is most likely to check river for pot control given that I could easily represent an overpair or monsters that I slowplayed.
Not an easy call to make nevertheless.
